So when’s the best time for exterior painting?
We usually book outdoor painting jobs between September and April. These months generally offer:
- Warmer daytime temperatures
- Less chance of rain
- Longer daylight hours (which helps with drying time)
All of these make a big difference in how well the paint sticks, dries, and lasts.
Why weather matters so much
For exterior jobs, dry and mild conditions are key. If the house is damp, the paint won’t adhere properly. If it rains soon after painting, it can ruin the finish. And if it’s too cold, the paint won’t dry between coats the way it’s meant to.
That’s why we plan around the forecast and won’t risk painting in poor conditions – it’s not worth compromising the quality of your job.
Can you paint outside in winter?
Yes – but only in certain situations. If the job really can’t wait until spring, we can use specialised exterior paints that are designed to cure at lower temperatures. These products still need the right surface conditions, but they give us more flexibility during the colder months.
